Alibaba’s Qwen team has released Qwen-Image-2.1-Turbo, an accelerated checkpoint of its open-weight Qwen-Image-2.1 model. It generates and edits images in 8 denoising steps instead of the base model’s 40-step default. For developers, that means 5x fewer denoising steps on the same 7B architecture, plus a hosted API option. TL;DR What is Qwen-Image-2.1-Turbo? This past week I built (prompted) a tool I find myself using day to day and wanted to share it with others who may find it useful as well. “Lacuna” is an opinionated way to invoke LLMs into any text input on your Mac. Specifically, you can type bracketed phrases {such as this}, press Shift-Command-K (or a different shortcut of your choosing), and the tool sends your bracketed phrase + the surrounding text contents to an LLM of your configuration for generating text to replace the bracketed phrase. The program returns 3 candidate phrases and the experience is entirely keyboard navigable. Demo: https://jackdamon.org/assets/images/lacuna-scheduling-demo.g... Example scheduling workflow using Lacuna’s native UI and sample suggestions. So far I find myself frequently using it when drafting emails where I want help with quick phrasing. The project was inspired by Rectangle, an open source utility app for window tiling that is keyboard based. "Staggering." "Overwhelming." "Unprecedented." "Surreal." "Pure insanity." Those were among the descriptions more than three dozen mathematicians reached for in conversations with The Verge as they tried to make sense of the flood of mathematical results OpenAI abruptly dropped on the field this week. Amid the awe, excitement, and uncertainty over the sheer scale of the […]

Showing off carrier-explode, one of my side projects that continuously archives carrier settings for all major phone brands. carrier-explode also contains decoders and explanations for all the common baseband configurations, etc. There’s still quite a bit of work to be done in checking my assumptions, but the tool has already been proven useful for a few enthusiast groups.
